"Zoneout"

ODG197 : Adam Majdecki-Janicki / Zoneout

Adam Majdecki-Janicki (1985) is a multi talented Polish artist with a penchant for creating mind-bending musical landscapes. His music is a captivating fusion of psychedelic rock, experimental sounds, and poetic lyricism, taking listeners on a journey through a kaleidoscope of emotions. With his DIY ethos and unwavering passion for music, he is a force to be reckoned with in the underground music scene.

He has previously released his work on labels such as Nebular Silence, Superspace Records, Engram Recordings, Illuminated Paths, Silent Method Records, Snow in Water Records, Father and Son Records and Tapes, attenuation circuit, Anticipating Nowhere Records, Fifth Section Records, nostalgie de la boue, Muteant Sounds (net label), Veinte 33 Records, Boiled Angel Records, Herby Records, and Argali Records Netlabel.

After 25 years of artistic work, his debut vinyl LP titled simply “Adam Majdecki-Janicki” was released with Herby Records on December 9 2023. It is a beautiful limited release with exclusive artwork by Justin Jackley.

In 2024, Adam is entering his 26th year of operation as an artist.

His new album, “Zoneout”, sees Adam exploring his more psychedelic and improv side. He uses primarily acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitar, and synthesizers, but also utilizes tapes in the spirit of his 2020 “Eimi” album complimented by Maurizio Bianchi himself. The music is a curious mixture of Kosmische Musik, noise, and folklore. Traces of drone and ambient can also be detected, as well as traces of free jazz, and punk.

“Zoneout” was recorded live January 31-February 5 2024 at the Via Kosmische home studio in Poznań, Poland. Only first takes were used for the final album experience.

“Zoneout” is a fine addition to Adam's long catalogue of works, and a fresh look at what is now 26 years of work as an audio artist.

Digital release on the 15 of November 2024.

"Millions of Gods"

No fake gods
Millions of gods
Eyes on the screen
Triangle gods
All-seeing gods
Millions of gods
In every corner of us

They watch us
They watch every step
Wait for disease
That one god will send

Carefully watched
I'm not paranoid
I know there's someone after me
Cause someones know
They know what I will be
Will I ever die?

Will I ever die?
Will I ever die?
Will I ever die?
Will I ever die?

This is not (y)our regular drummer!

Back in 1998-2001, which were my forming years as a young poet and lyricist and composer (big word - composer!), I used to jam a lot with my friends. We played mostly punk music, and sang about revolution. We were 13-16y/o and totally out of it on cheap wine, cheap beer, cheap cigarettes, and cheap dope. I was a troubled kid, listening to Nirvana, Melvins, and the Butthole Surfers, slowly discovering 60s/70s psych, kraut, and stoner.

We had rehearsals at a military unit (psychedelic, literal - because of age - punks at a military unit - only in Poland 1998-2001!), and some soldiers were even trying to buy dope from us - but we were musicians, not dealers! So, the soldiers never got their dope. Good for them.

Anyway, in those years I wrote a few lyrics that survived the tides of time, and found their way onto my albums. I think "Navel of the Universe" was written back then. It's my favorite lyric from all the stuff I've written. It might have been written in early 2001, and set to music with Mateusz in 2002. I had the riff I practiced like crazy, a very simple E / F# riff, and the lyrics really sat nicely on top of it. Even back then I liked to keep things simple, and lyrics astral. You can read the complete "Navel of the Universe" text in the "Lyrics" section of this blog.

My punk rock friends were unavailable during the entire summer, so I also recorded lots of solo tapes on my Casio MA-120 organ, guitar, drums, and voice in the Neptun holiday house in Darłówko. And those were already quite psychedelic, some of those early sounds were incorporated into the A.J. Kaufmann album "Neptun" released on The Swamp Records. I lost most of the tapes, maybe as meant since they weren't really good, but miraculously found one unlabeled tape this year, and from this tape comes this excerpt obviously dedicated to He-Man. However, it was most probably recorded early 2002, so just a month or two before I founded a band with Mateusz Nowicki. I also recorded some folk songs, like Gordon Lightfoot's "There Was a Time", and stuff like that. I was soaking up with all sorts of influences, bad and good.

And so, in 2002 I was already quite confident as a lyricist and songwriter - I had a good supply of words and riffs from rich psychedelic sources, and also decided to write about sci-fi, love, philosophy, and the city (mostly). I practiced lead guitar, and organ, but never did I practice vocals. In music we were inspired by all sorts of 60s/70s bands - one summer (I think it was 2003) we even heard the legendary Cromagnon album. I was mostly into Amon Duul II and Hawkwind back then. Before we founded our band, I managed to write around 50 songs. Among them was this one, "The Nudist", re-discovered in old boxes of notes and tapes. Inspired by Pink Floyd's "The Nile Song" it tells a tale of a summer goddess. I liked the theme of summer goddesses! It was quite enchanting to an ugly little guy with a Kosmos electric guitar!

Those two raw pieces of audio best represent what I am still after in 2024. With over 20 years gone like one hot summer day it's hard to tell where I actually "started" or "where am I going to". But it is clear that the path stayed the same, and that I am not your regular drummer. Thanks for reading the memory of a head. More to come if you fancy. Those "Polish psych underground" tales never end!

People C’mon, Wherever You May Roam

C’mon people, people c’mon
Walk with me together
Into things unknown
Into tribal sunrise hanging high above
Valleys of your wisdom
Mountains of your love
C’mon people, I need you on this trip
Throw away your watches
Time ain’t yours to keep
We’ll be drifting higher
Than primeval birds
We’ll be diving deeper
Than any ancient beast

C’mon people, people c’mon
Into whispering meadows
Unexplored and cold
Make them warm with sunshine
Make their grass your home
Walk forever glowing with the light of dawn
C’mon people, everyone of you
Sing your songs of freedom
Write your books of truth
Ain’t no use in waiting
Only action saves us
Who will be there standing
After death’s hand grabs us

C’mon people, people c’mon
Naked in the starlight, dancing on and on
Into summer pastures
Filled with golden thrones
Of a spotless space child, sitting ruling wise
What’s below the mountains, what’s above the sky
C’mon people, bring your planet back
Up to bright horizons
When the dark sky cracks
New dawn reaches out now
For our infant heads
We were born tomorrow
We will live today

C’mon people, people c’mon
To the astral light hovering upon
Sunrise and the sunset, cycles of the world
Things we named and counted, things that made us grow
From a shelf of shadow to the super star
Melting war and chaos into love and art
C’mon people, people c’mon
Don’t be worried, hurried
By the swinging sword
Of our fathers’ masters
We have overthrown
Ride the wind of changes
Ride it on and on

C’mon people, people c’mon
Look for radiant valleys in the eyes of love
And whoever loves us, and whoever dreams
On angelic bikes, on translucent wings
Pain is not a feeling, pleasure ain’t a bliss
Once you kiss your Eden in its swollen lips
C’mon people, people c’mon
Walking sad and blinded
Through automatic shores
Like a ghost of knowledge
Cosmic axis spins
Balances the madness
Most of us live in

C’mon people, people c’mon
Leave the dirty city, shake of all that smog
Run through wondrous forests in majestic spring
Don’t it make you thankful for the words you sing
To the primal railroad riding high on steam
From a fertile mountain to your spirit’s stream
C’mon people, people c’mon
All we need are singers
For the same old song
How the west was conquered
How the sunlight played
Over clean acoustic
Towns and villages

"Alp Per"

Through atlantic pan sonic scultpures
dawning of fiction, fantasy writers
of Avalon
singing old tales of riders and mares
putting plots on Mars
or other familiar planets
for working class kids'
amusement
on swings, on
ladders, in sand
boxes
preparing for king parts in the
choose your queen
process
hey professor, you missed the last child
dreaming!

Through somatic light years of Alptraum
dawning of science, road one
when was it? I feel
that yesterday's still
learning; troubling pens
on widow wings
capturing Kodak
lines from the future, to memorize
progress
and introduce men
to technology lost
who?
what was it? sore telepathic idiot

"I'm Digging In" (23.12.2009).

I've got all the colors of the tiger - sisters know it for fact,
brothers don't care, I love them like that... so many... so
stoned...vibrations of palm scented youth.

Where are you?

Brothers gave me roses, sisters came with a 45...whitey,
gotta take it, gotta beware...bourgeois forces want your
head...impaled on their plastic fence...exposed in a white,
cellophane window, for white fat kids to see...lawyers
want your work.

White cheap whores want your dick, preachers want your
soul. Cemeteries roar for your body.

The doctors want your brain, runners want your muscle.

You're the alien of derelict districts
they're all looking for...here, take this gun,
take acid. Lots of. Here's some tinned goods. Eat.
Here's wine. You've got to survive. Smoke this.
You'll see more clearly.
We're gonna pick you up real soon.
Just look at the sky...use your mind...use true
electric airwaves.

They're gonna come with their cameras, crosses, banners, angry flying fists
fighting for true religion. Blood and gold,
tobacco and liquor...the only true god...death at your door...
mostly Christians - blood remembers the spiller...

but you best ignore it. Write books. We might need them later.
Write music. We need a new anthem.

Stay stoned. Don't leave the apartment. It'll happen all by
itself...just watch...they'll never find you...your door has been
marked. The Airport has been closed. The Devil is kept in
chains.

Who are you?

We're Scythe to the White, Soul for all Colors...Listen...you're
one of us...bathe in this...bathe real long...you'll turn black and red and yellow
...you'll see the Night in all colors. We will recognize you.
Here, here is the piano...screw it electric.

Listen...I've come a long way - space was cold, but... colorful...magic
I've spend years of communion there...millions of years, while here,
down on the planet, the climate changed, infrastructures exploded,
architecture disintegrated into jungle...I had
to leave the city...

...of feathered snakes, anonymous pyramids in underwater sunlight...hey,
we were the nuclear light...look at the ceiba, black stone...Fifth Sun crying,
turning...ice melting slowly...This is Africa speaking, lost immaculate rose...

I've got a strange kind of feeling...it was neither an asteroid nor a giant bomb.
No idea...got high on the shroom...so beautiful...all those lights, orange horizons, distant ships talking,
falling to Earth...so psychedelic...so... deep...the birth of real
communication

take care, hold on to your coats...hold on to your homes...my face hurts a lot...
must be the cross of guilt...Three-colored Man in the Night... White Faced
Demon at Daybreak.

Enjoy it. That's all you've got. Hummingbird Morse Code
Colored Disguise.

...I'm off to X-Balba soon - lots of green land, parks,
spacious attics, no noise but guitars and scrapbooks
and water, water water...
Pure to change the Color.

I'm just digging in.

I've got all the colors of the tiger - truth is I'm a mindless
swan, headed for the void.

Wait. Dig in. Find means of escape.
Change into Tiger.
Live according to wavelengths of space.
Fear not - New Sunrise is coming shortly - right after the last, pathetic
commercial break.

Then I'll go marry
the last immaculate rose.

Neon Nocturnes / Treehouse Jams

As the year comes to its end I find myself working on two new works - one is a set of ambient synth soundscapes "Neon Nocturnes". These improvisations are drone / New Age based and are both for meditation and active listening. I started working on them after listening to Igor Stravinsky in the record store where I currently work. So, there will also be classical music influences audible. But, the work won't be classical, and obviously I haven't forgotten about my noise / experimental roots when it comes to electronic music. You can listen to parts 1-6 on SoundCloud, and the project will be released soon. The idea is to fill the other half of the album with non-related pieces, abstract, and free form.

The other project is free rock-based improvs for electric guitar, bass guitar, and drum machine. It's called Treehouse Jams quite loosely, and I am not sure if those pieces will be released on an album. It all depends on the quality and quantity of them. I released many rock-based improv albums before, so I am not sure if there is need for another one. But I really enjoy playing around with the new drum machine, and playing my guitars. So, here is to a happy creative 2024 - the sound research at Via Kosmische goes on! Here is the Treehouse jam, and below a link to order my vinyl LP from Herby Records.

Adam Majdecki-Janicki, better known as A.J. Kaufmann, is a poet, songwriter and musician residing in Poznan, Poland. He is one of the most important figures in the Wielkopolska underground, an artist associated mainly with the independent scene. His musical activity should be of particular interest to fans of psychedelic music. He is the author of several dozen albums, released physically and digitally. Outside the country, the artist successfully debuted with the well-received collection of poetry entitled "Siva in Rags", published in 2008. Important achievements in his output are also the first album released on CD and vinyl "Second Hand Man" from 2011, as well as the album "Stoned Gypsy Wanderer" in 2014.

The Exit

Who bought the cross, who sold the law
Who wrote the book, who let us go
Who gave a promise, who built a wall
Who came in peace, who came unsure
Who was the first here
Who’ll be the last
Who came in war
Who came in jazz
Who’ll see the exit
See the end

Who made the bricks, who built the well
Who stoned the church, came up with hell
Who was the drifter, what was the trip
Who came too far, who went too deep
Who was the junkie
Who played the drug
Where will it take us
When will it stop
Who’ll see the exit
The suffering lot

Who turned the page, who took the load
Who died for love, who was never born
Who took the gaspipe, who took the rope
Who questioned yes to answer no
Who was the sailor
On which fake boat
Who ran for faith
Came up with gold
Who’ll see the exit
The end alone

25 years of madness - the LP.

The news is finally here. After 25 years of artistic work I will have my debut vinyl released in Texas, USA, by the most incredible label - Herby Records.

Herby has supported various projects of mine, including the STONED GYPSY WANDERER 2 vinyl release in 2020, NEANDERTHALMEN EP "Powitanie Lucyfera" in 2021, and the CHICA NARCOTICA LP in 2022.

All of those releases are kindly credited not only to HERBY RECORDS, but also to VIA KOSMISCHE, my home studio in which most of my recordings were made across the years.

I can't believe it all started in 1998 with a simple cassette recorder, shaky teenage voice, and a classical guitar.

“Kaufmann is a folk troubadour, minstrel and a harbinger of new sounds and thought. There is a theme that runs through this body of work, a method to his madness. All of these songs are a journey. So take the trip and give a listen. Nobody knows it but AJ Kaufmann is a national treasure of Poland.”

by David Bixby, Harbinger Magazine

To those in-the-know, Mr. Dave Bixby is certainly a Hero. So, to be called a national treasure by him is the greatest honor I can imagine.

I always worked hard, and never stopped making music, noise, writing poetry, composing, improvising, writing song lyrics, even against the hardest currents of Life.
I worked alone for 4 years, then in 2002 I started working with Mateusz Nowicki, 10 years later (2012) with Kacper Wojaczek, and another 10 years later (2022) with Leszek Garstka.

I never enjoyed big ensembles, groups, the noise around rock'n'roll. Although I've always been a fan of Hawkwind, Amon Duul, Gong, Magma, Nektar... the list goes on.

In 2015 I met the mighty Amon Duul II in London. It was a life-changing experience, and I will be eternally grateful to Renate Knaup who invited me backstage after the London gig. I met everyone, talked to everyone, got to know what makes music important, and understood why some things grow fast, and sick, and some things grow slow, and strong and healthy...

SO FINALLY, after 25 years that most of my friends think I spent smoking ganja and drinking beer, not working hard in my home studio, my debut vinyl as ADAM MAJDECKI-JANICKI (self-titled, too) is coming to HERBY RECORDS December 9th. Right now you can buy the super limited 7" single ANITA PALLENBERG / HOTTHOUSE FOR ORCHIDS.

"Little Beata" (22.10.2023).

She talks to planets she created sighing
Slow fantastic oceans
Creator's secret masterplan
Suns she gave fuel to evaporating
Growing into land
She's the great galactic trip-in
Deep mystery of life cycles
But I call her Little Beata
Bride of the albatross
Seventh sister of heaven
Green and red, she's an Irish head
Used to be blonde
But then she changed the weather
Will she conquer the facts
Or let them slide out of hand
Down the eternal wave of death...

"Diane" - new poem, 13.10.2023.

the author's difference in cases now without
born of the Tao
its delicate pastoral background
she's the story of being a faithful woman
the spirit invades
so worse
and in honor
recast true else
ideas and originality and subjects of this politeness
of will
yes, will you give the Tao a previous place
where your ambition arranged it
pedantry it is
will tell of it
but not certain
in front of love and culture
certainly, Diane no account represents regions
resists the battles
from there until
scholarship sites
have been burnt to the ground

A.J. Kaufmann - "Patricia (Gypsy Caravan Rollin')"

Patricia (Gypsy Caravan Rollin')

I met her in autumn
Though I’ve seen her before
In one kind of life or another
I believe she’s my twin
Though we don’t know it by now
And she still judges a book by its cover
So please have a look
As I’m standing before you
And I’m begging of you for an audition
In dreams I’ve heard voices
Of many-a-gal
But they all whispered one name – Patricia

I fell for her quickly
Till winter grew on
Then I thought that she might not be willing
But one look in those eyes
Those reflections of sky
With the diamond-stars shining bright and no ceilings
So don’t turn away
As I’m trying to know you
I believe in my heart’s intuition
And it tells me since autumn, keeps telling me now
There’s just one gal for you – Patricia

Like a stoned Gypsy wanderer
I follow her roads
And I follow some light that I hope guides me
And the gods of the old times
At the gates of Babylon
Tell me, son of ours, follow her, cause now you’re blinded
So don’t lay your head
Where the killings are done
On your soul winged from the start of your wishes
Just walk out of this and leave all that’s his
Come here where’s your place – Patricia

And the caravan stood still
As the bard he did play
On his strings for the same unchanging goddess
Thru ages of stars and thru faces so different
Just one and only spirit wanders
And it crosses those borders
So many-a-time
And it howls in the wind, ruins cities
Like a blossoming thunder, and tombstones not plundered
And stories of old do repeat – Patricia

"Galactic Wish"

Galactic Wish

I would like to taste a kingdom deep
A fruit so sweet
I would like to land on planets new
Of endless views
I would like to steer my life away
From pain and hate
Bathe in Krishna dew that falls anew
With brilliant days

I would like to spring a forest calm
Like Milky Way
Thousand leaves that fall like words
Of courage for the brave
Bathe in solar winds of fury
Glistening above
Like the one who strokes the sun
With universal love

Three texts.

Letter from Via Kosmische, 17/1/19 Earth Time, 16:37.

Driving (in the) snow from Kempten. I was supposed to put saucers and blondes together, but the reversable rider of Skye said „NO!”, and off he went on a rollercoaster ride of thrift shop guitars, carrying the torch for Lady Biba. The 4 A.M. Lamp kept burning, and sociopaths were rescued from their shady caves, turned into rainbows and oh! Butterflies „above the nation”. That was the dream of the Woodstock generation, now wasn't it? Drugs on war. Peace for fuck. The TV replacable eyes of narcolepsy, the tidal waves of Atlantis re-rising in the re-standing Baalbek megalith-os of Love, drilled into Sumerian skies of transformatory grace. There were no temples in the beginning, just staircases in the jungle, and death whistles blazing over Spaniard beards, which eventually put the whole conqueror thing in asylums. I shook hands with Chris Karrer, and off I went to another gig, this time on the airport, for the krautrocking children of a lost fantasy. It's all in the Wood. Anonymous band, 2 drummers, carbon copy of the Duulian magic – NO SOUL. Suddenly Berlin, and the airport park, parking lot, P'Ark. There was this shady figure in robes of breakfast serving sound on dishwasher plateau. There was a party in the Underground Cart on the rooftop, far from Krishna Supermarkets, and the Queen was paying for everything. Somebody stole my only good tune. Telepathically coding „she she she” over napkins with new chords. Sirens flashing, colors roaring, Arthur Rimbaud laughing in the rearview mirror. What was the dream in 1968, cause I forgot where I put my acid, and then the years skipped to 2019, and 1969 was now half a century ago (Earth Time) from my original trip beyond Pluto. VOYAGER 1 BEAMS GREETINGS – but there's no-one on the other side of this purely human errorenous line. Time is structural, we invented it - and those weren't the dreams of any generation. Back to work in Via Kosmische, far high on Nepalese huts, arches of deconstruction, and Angus MacLise's photo with the Reaper sharing space with Miss Stacia on the wallpaper. I guess he was a prophet, I guess she was a dancer, I guess I have some job to do. Now, what was the album about, saucers and blondes together, right, and friends, on the psychetropic wave of sonic exhaustion. Ambient. Sheer noise attack. Cough cough, Lady Biba crosses her legs on the fridge, serving naked lunch on golden stockings. Microtonal whispers of boy elevators, captured on tape in the magical summer of 2002. There are visions there I couldn't capture in any letter, but I sometimes send one from VIA to the occupants of Earth Daze, and maybe they receive 1% of the message, and share doctrines with the Eye See Eye mock pseudogod high on the vinyl mount to punish me for trying. She last told me she worked in Dubai. The letter's getting hazy, the dawn is over, clouds turn back from blood-red to chromeblue, and the prophet buries fool's clothes in the lava lamp bathtub. There is a new day, and songs have to be written, wrong notes be sung, instruments be banged on, improvs recorded. Bring on the congas, Ditty, there's a Joker escaping.

Buy More Chewinggum

We live in funny times.
The Artist writes his best song for 7 years, suffers mental breakdowns, heartbreaks, crazy life situations, misunderstandings, self-doubt, rehabs, and other things that people might encounter in 7 long years. The song is finally ready. He records it. It takes a week. He releases it. Nobody buys it.
In the meantime, The Kid makes a beat on his iPhone, it takes him 3 minutes. He drops it. Someone buys it for $50, to rap about „bitches” over the mindless loop. The Kid buys more chewinggum.

We live in funny times.
The Virtuoso studies his whole life in Music Schools and Academies. He graduates, is selected for a virtuoso contest. He loses the contest, winning which was the point of his whole life. But, he never gives up, and runs in another. And another. And another. 10 years later he never wins. So, he commits suicide.
The Kid has manual skills, so he bangs on his drums, The Kid's parents have lots of money, so they train their little monkey to develop better manual skills, and record a video. They upload it to YouTube. A „child prodigy” is born. The parents are proud.

We live in funny times.
The Artist can barely pay his bills, because he devotes his entire life to Art. His teeth are already missing, because he can't afford the dentist. The dentist? You must be joking – he can barely afford cornflakes. He couldn't eat them anyway, not with his beautiful missing teeth. Nobody buys his paintings – the system has declared him insane – so he has to buy medicine for a sickness he doesn't have – he's sick only because a healthy individual in a sick society is always sick. That's how it goes.
The Kid „paints” in his application, and sells his designs to various gadget producers. They print his „work” on their stuff and he makes a living out of it. He buys more chewinggum.

We live in funny times.
But luckily, I don't have to live in those times.
I've long built a Time Continuum Machine, that is now finally working.
I set the controls to Munich, 1968. I bid you adieu.
In the meantime, decide if you're an Artist, or just a lucky Kid.
If you're just a Kid, stop polluting the world of Artists with your Bullshit.
And buy more chewinggum, for Christ's sake.

Somewhere in Bavaria

I remember a funny situation. I'm at this jam in a friended Berlin house (Zehlendorf district), and we play like crazy, making really sick noise, really sick, like we were summoning a dusty Babylonian deity. Two beautiful Spanish girls sit upstairs, and I think the noise started annoying them, since one of them actually walked down into the basement, looked at my friends (Germans) and said something in Spanish. They all stopped playing, and all you could hear was my Hamer DuoTone bleeding like fuck because I figured out, hey, I don't understand Spanish, so I don't give a fuck, but one of the Guys says "Stop playing". I asked him "What the fuck did she say?" He says "I've no idea, but it sounded like murder - let's go upstairs and have some drinks".

I remember a funny interview from back in 2015.
"How do you call your music?"
"Eternal rozpierducha."
"What does rozpierducha mean?"
"Oh, it's a Polish thing, you wouldn't understand."

This jam has a very interesting background. It involves 2 French dancers I met at a jam session. They wanted to buy cigarettes, but on the way to the store, which took 20 minutes longer than it should they decided to "take a musician home". I guess they never spent a night with a guitar player before, as they were quite surprised by the arpeggiated foreplay that lasted 4 hours and included Jimi Hendrix showoffs, flamenco idiocy, and, finally oral practice on the frets. After all that silly shit, one of the French girls, I don't remember their names says "play something sexy", with an accent that could drive Keith Richards even more nuts than he already is. So I said, yeah, my first Woman taught me this song in bed, you'll love it. I disappeared for 2 weeks that night. Gotta love jam sessions!

I remember a funny situation. Once I had an argument with my wife, as usual when we talked art. So, I walked out of our apartment muttering "bitch" under my breath, ignoring her screams that could be heard in the entire block, and went straight to my poet friend to get wasted on Jim Beam. We got triple wasted, cause we had 3 bottles. But, I figured out Wife, being a legal psychopath, would kill me had I not returned home for the night. So, totally trashed, I return home at 2:30 A.M., and think to myself, "I'll try to be kind". I open up the door, and just then a pair of 5 inch heeled black leather boots misses my head at full speed by about 5 centimeters. I never sobered up as fast as that day. Lesson learned.

It was all for you, Madeleine, now it's all for the Girl of the Road. Have you met Her? Somewhere in Bavaria...

"Nymph Of The Blue" (Experimental Mix) - with MAJA OKAMGNIENIE

Adam Majdecki-Janicki - voice, electric guitar, bass guitar, lyrics.
Maja Okamgnienie - synthesizer.

***

Maja plays synth in Psychedelic Mayhem. We met today to jam and talk on some artists like White Noise, Popol Vuh, Yuri Morozov, Silver Apples, Daphne Oram... and out of our two worlds meeting in the axis this song was born. Enjoy.

Now let me tell you a story
That happened long ago
One lazy Sunday evening
When I went to play the show
The mood was just thrilling
The band played more than well
And then a weird thing happened
The one I wanna tell

In the middle of the song
I looked down on you
And suddenly you dissolved
Into a nymph of the blue
So I stopped my playing
Flew down from the scene
To embrace the most gentle and
Charming superior being

Fly away with you
The nymph of the blue
Hit the roof, never mind
Somewhere high our bliss we’ll find

LSD
You and me
LSD
You are me
Lysergic, lysergic, making love to you
Lysergic, lysergic, kaleidoscopic view
Lysergic, lysergic, strobe and negative
Colors uprightly hissing in my ears

In the middle of the song
My band looked at me
And they thought I’m going mad
But I shook in ecstasy
Why you stopped your playing?
Who’s that girl with you?
Well, dear boys, please let me bring in
The nymph of the blue

Lysergic, lysergic, who you are but time
Lysergic, lysergic, the hourglass stops rhyme
Lysergic, lysergic, shaking melting ground
Colors uprightly please stop that mocking sound

"Pretty Annie" (2010).

Poor like a sailor
Hungry like a ghost
Leaving all the places
I had to love the most
Sweetening the sickness
Wherever it may be
Seeing pretty Annie
Coming back to me

I’ve seen it all
Along the road
I’ve been thru everything
To get her soul
And now I’m stoned
On her affairs
Read all about it
I’ve met here where
The sun is bare
Like pilgrim bones
I’ve seen it all
Along the road
Pretty Annie, I want my gold

Can’t get lower
Guess this is how I end
Back on junkie alleys
Home sweet ole trash
Playing my routines
Older than the world
Seeing pretty Annie
When it’s getting cold

I’ve seen it all
Along the road
I’ve been thru everything
Golden shot swirl
And now I’m dead
To papers low
Sold all my guitars
Quit the midnight show
The moon’s a wreck
And so am I
I’ve seen it all
Old lovers die
Pretty Annie, fix my tie

"per-form" (2023/01/07)

kings o the night, ancient, Aztec ones - bright in sunblaze
where it shines in the darkness
they gather

below the city slum of rivers, the ancient ones, that flow
below the Market
guiding death beyond the gates

humans, we are
space our mother/father - Earth our driving wheel, and ghost and spirit
our screams

there is an old owl-shaped
neon sign in the jungle, where the blocks meet the soil on which
crocodiles feast, deep below the city, below the river even
o the story and glory of daze

they still sing, in unison
where all they per-form is noted duly, in the scripts of the veil beyond
the green UFO screens of dusk

there is something cooking here, entirely baked and origin
where dharma sleeps, I wake from my slumber, origin, origin
and I bathe in the sky and wear stars on my cheeks

there she sometimes wakes up, radiant in silk patterns
to kiss the stars and scream of Aztec bungalows
whenever we construct them again

each yawn a blessing, a trace of form
form form
per-form

2012-07-29: "Eastern Bananas" (poetry suite).

Bullshit

I keep having that flashback
child on a viaduct cracked from sunflowers
under a red star, dreaming
of concrete landscapes shifting
factories caving in
smokestacks falling
proud blocks giving way
to the forest
the child erecting its eyes
to a new pedestal, one its parents
didn’t live to see – though they didn’t even
die – they simply vanished
but now the sun is shining
free radio’s playing music
through simple headphones
chants of freedom erase
equal slogans, make room
for love, replacing blades of unity
sole party, now dismembered, looks through the cracks
at sunflowers calling bees
to create simple food
out of nothing
for the masses to feast on
it invested in arms much too long
embracing too many people
let them finally
have a taste of freedom
before the new oppressor comes around
was this child even me?
I remember vanishing too, around 1989
with the last wave of protest
too loud to resist much longer
I was drinking bold juices
of West, back then
waving banana machine guns
I keep having that flashback
my drinking pals call the devil
I know it’s just a mirage
dead, misleading image
though from my father’s LPs
I learned of many fine people
creating in those sad cold ages, too bad
they didn’t have the context
their western contemporaries lived in
and taken out of our context
all they and we ever did
was bullshit

Last Candle

we’ll melt that last candle, I promise,
it’s a trip to the sun, no less,
amazing feature, silver screen creature
you’re the prettiest one, I took you with
me, everywhere I went, I’m sorry for the
people you had to meet, but time is golden
and gold is power, and I haven’t done
anything yet to acquire
whatever it takes for success, success
is an empty page, but folks
believed me, and now I’ve got
debts I once was free of, I promise, it’s a trip
to the south where we’ll watch African
moons rise over rootsy backdrops
and I’ll never rhyme again, unless it
makes me some dollar, unless it takes
me back home, when we both were
adorable children, favorites of our
families, but since then I’ve become
outcast poet, and you’ve been inspiration
to many, in many bedrooms, waking up
the monsoon that lies beside me
feels good, but I know it’s not mine
though time will come to cruise
that last stony night, from then on it will be
perfect golden daybreaks, clouds
serving grapefruit tea, white coffee
with freshly picked snowflakes,
we’ll reside in that last
free island, perhaps we’ll find that
lost particle, launch further expeditions
if only you decide to stay somewhere
the free spirit you are
I might finally join you, can’t you see
you’ve made my boots weary
and they won’t lead me naked
stoned and dazed forever
thru a palace of childhood you try hard
to envision
I’m pretty sure there’s no such thing
as a palace, it’s more of a park
but by loose definition
and most certainly not where we landed
I promised a trip to the sun
no cheap ersatz will do
though I’m sure you already
feel golden, always free
from connections

Side Streets

without trips, drunk alone
the next line should be something
that ends with cobblestone
routine kicks in, or it’s only
the sound of silence,
anyway I don’t believe I’m special
same feelings as you
same flesh and spirit
perhaps mine is easily locked
in a bottle, that’s why I’m
drinking alone, after another
idiot’s day, the next line should end
with something that says “stay”, preceded
with please, but I knew she wouldn’t, so here
I am with my guitar, trying to write
a song, but the chords are messed up
and I’m a funny guy with no job
who pretends he’s really
acting, maybe that’s why the last
line should say distracted
haven’t felt that low since I landed
here, here is Paris, 2 A.M.
looking outside my window
I see couples sharing the street
but there’s no one I know outside
so there’s no need to move
and as I find another needle, I guess
the chorus might need a fiddler
or the intro, some sad East European
notes, did you know that every country
has a blue note of its own? ours is played by the
war drum, awakening our women
frightening last survivors, it beats
across the border, every time a child
is born in enemy’s city
we weep, without tears
but you better stick to songs, this last
dialogue should end with “wrong”
or “war is wrong”, but I’m shooting
junk in a dirty hotel room that remembers
both wars, then Korea, Vietnam and everything,
not even knowing who I am
except that this girl came to teach me
how it’s like to be alone
in a city of a million friends
that’ll forget your grave
once you slip over its
side streets

Reputation

you’ve got to earn your reputation
write everywhere
live the day with inkaust roses
blooming in the rearview mirror
fall asleep with death by your side
in the same dirty bed
where you screwed her first, midnight jazz
pumping wild, limitless, into the
coma of sunrise, where your first
words were written, screamed
against the hospital confinement
later nursery, school and prison
still you scream, to earn your reputation
poems are bread, life is the coffee
take a bite, sip the enlightenment
cup by cup, slice after slice
don’t feed it to birds, they’d die
from the exhaustion, unlike you
they still need the power to fly
they’re not confined, unless you count
the bright blue dome, cliché turning
wheel, advertising sign
whose reputation were you living?
does it really matter?
the only question is open books
in the chimney, pistols in the bathtub
shooting sterile tiles, in another
hospital, old, either going mad, or expecting
another child – you’re no one
until you prove your infection
once you do that, you’re healed
back to society
living on prescriptions, shooting sure
shadows at sundown, talking to the
omnipresent priest, arranging
your wedding, once you’re sure
you made it, the world will make you happy
whether you like it or not
you’ll become the fragment
everybody wanted
canned supermarket sun
baby in the cart
whether sold or stolen
it doesn’t really matter
when the graveyard shift
yawns back
at the awakening city

Kid with a Radio

I sat by the radio at night
never was conscious in school
the next day, dreaming of an
autumn Sunday, writing
lyrics, recording
music I then called obscure
from times I can’t remember
times I’ll never live in
filling up the dark, dimming
lights for love, I never had
a friend, but transistor lights
and oceans, though all we really had
was sea, fishermen telling legends
of a frozen passage
I listened to them, vacationing along
wishing I was back in school
so I could write in chemistry notebooks
sketches of a future song
I wrote down riffs, made notes
on song structures, was humming
imaginary refrains, I never thought
I’ll make it, but I kept streaming
phasing through the ether
clouding with the night wind
morphing with the currents
and so they took me – to far off
lands I never thought existed
with hungry girls that never
really knew me, anyway, the pearls
kept falling from their stylish neckties
jewelry, necklaces, all they ever wanted
I bought them, risking my breakfast
but hey, I don’t regret getting thin
especially in Berlin, where I’ve heard
they’ve got the best scene – bullshit,
they’ve got fat fingers
purging through the madness
urging with the rubble
same thing every town
wrapped in wallpapers
damned boys
who wish they were as young as me
still willing to change
especially myself
still willing to run
not from, but against the system

British of Me

sadly
I lost track
of some memories, I no longer
blaze them
with a chewing gum torch
and carry them through the
main square
things became simpler, I no
longer need them, so I let
them pass
people will love me, those
who always did, no need
to smile back again
encountering loss
grief, despair, I’m flying now
where no eye flares
no fire ever rages
it’s oddly calm, on this cloud
I’ve packed my sorrows
in thunders, let’s let them roll
all night, until they’re full
feasting on trees
I climbed as a child
looking at forests
that once proudly grew here
back into tears of the spider
weaving his clear-cut sunweb
who am I to see this
let alone do it – I mean gazing
at eternity, which is not the
dark void
some sad monks want it
to be, rather a flash of steam
from the first train rolling
down American shores
the undiscovered continent
waits to shed the green skin
succumb to steel brave sunrise
forged by ugly children
who thought they’d found their
paradise – things are not what they seem,
and I am on a war path
years have taught them nothing
but pillage and murder
addictions and diseases
let me drink my tea
so British of me, darling

It Must Be Spain

I think I’ll try write down
anything different
from what I usually read
in so-called rebels’ books
private editions, limited print runs
obituaries in flesh – their words, as mine so far,
were ordinary, we used
same dictionaries, obviously
speaking different tongues
all sadly flat,
they probably thought we’re
the same, midnight beatnik daredevils
haunting suicide bridges
documenting the road
but then something struck me
and I moved away, no longer
insane, I exited stage
realizing we all write equal
as musicians we’ve scales
to stick to, we’ve got the margins
of sky, we can bend the rules
but never change them
we write the same,
no matter our history
so why we feel the need
to memorize our lives
as if they were essential
reading, no worries,
someone does that for us
not in earthly books
but on bronze literal columns, in
heaven, in invisible ink
and virgin kisses
where no words are laughable
imitable, combustible
and no publisher decides
what slogan should he stick
to your forehead
no writer writes you, no reader
reads you, no one is really
famous, but all the lines
are there, photographed
right down where we left them
you say it must be asylum
wings of failure bought you
I think it must be Spain
cause everything smells
so nice

Comprehended

at times I think
there’s a Buddha speaking
thru me, but thankfully
I put me back to ground
with casual smoke rings
irresistible neons
sleazy bars
proving there’s nothing
inside me, not even winds
howling thru abandoned
districts, in the town
where I was born, in cities
I lived thru, trams
going nowhere, shades
of people thumping
the sun, at times I think
it shines, like the moon,
in reflected light, but
speedily, stars cut me to size
I’m not like those people
and there’s not even nothingness
inside me, just biology
reproducing, endlessly searching
for meaning where there’s only
a road sign on a half-finished highway
saying “this” or “that” way, to my
half-finished journey
I haven’t even begun
who was I before coming down
on this world
on a pitiful drunken Sunday
my first Satori train
stopped at the wrong station
slicing thru sky
that dawns on my brain
like a twinkling bird of rebirth
flashing with the summer
on wings no human bought
no Buddha
comprehended
